Yes you can.
Our product developers have done extensive testing on a range of column packing materials.
- The column can be packed entirely with stainless steel saddles or entirely copper saddles.
- Marbles have been used, although found to be less effective at creating reflux than saddles.
- Prismatic spirals have also been tested and proven to increase ABV slightly compared to saddles, although at a much higher price point.
- Copper wool has also been tested and proven effective.
We encourage distillers to experiment with different column packings to see the different outcomes that can be achieved.
Note: It is not advised to add packing material above the weir because it can interfere with the temperature probe and flow of liquid from the weir.
