Yes, you can make rye and rum with our stills.
Alembic Pot Still
We would recommend using a Alembic Pot Still as this allows the flavours to remain in the wash. The best flavour profile will come from distilling your rye or rum wash in the Alembic Pot Still.
T500
If you only have the T500 in its standard configuration, it will strip the flavour due to re-fluxing. Reconfigure the T500 by the water distillation set up (see instructions).
Air Still / Air Still Pro
The Air Still or Air Still Pro are also suitable. However, whatever equipment you use, please make sure the wash isn't too sticky/thick to ensure it doesn't stick to the base of the boiler and cause it to trip.
We do not recommend using a Super Reflux Still if you have one, as this will completely strip the flavour.
Rum | Rye |
Using the Rum Distiller's Yeast along with molasses is the best way to make a rum wash (Rum yeast does not contain molasses). | Using the Whiskey Distiller's Yeast along with rye grain is the best way to make a rye wash. |
