The ultimate still in home distilling, the Turbo 500 is a must for anyone who wants to produce large quantities of extremely clean, pure alcohol.
The Turbo 500 allows you to collect an astonishing 95% of the possible alcohol from the wash. This comes out at an amazing 93% alcohol purity which beats every other still on the market.
Features:
- Still (boiler and column condenser (if stainless steel condenser chosen)) made from high quality 304 stainless steel construction.
- Column condenser available in stainless steel or copper.
- Takes as little as 4.5 hours to distil 25 L (6.6 US Gal).
- Yields 8 L (2 US Gal) of alcohol when watered down to 40% ABV.
- Excellent quality spirits and liqueurs in as little as 7 days.
- Produces 93% ABV strength alcohol from the still and recovers 95% of the alcohol in the wash resulting in an extremely clean, pure spirit.
- Save money by making your own quality spirits at a quarter of the price of commercial equivalents
Get in to the nitty gritty below:
Dimensions: The diameter of the T500 boiler/Grainfather is 300mm (0.3m) The diameter of the hole on the lid is: 48mm. The lid is 31.2cm diameter The T500 fully assembled is approximately 1.34m from the base of the boiler to the top loop connection (tube on top of condenser)
Tubes Dimensions: 40383 T500 Water in tubing PVC ID 6mm x 1.1m 40381 T500 Little U clear tube at top of condenser ID 6mm x 0.2m 40384 T500 Water out tubing PVC ID 8mm x 1.5m 40382 T500 Beverage tubing (alcohol out) ID 6mm x 0.85m
Wattage: It is: 220- 240V ~ 50/60Hz 2000W in NZ/AU/UK/EU It is: 1600W-120V ~ 60Hz in US/CANADA
Battery: The battery type for the T500 thermometer is LR44 This equivalent of this commercially is A76 The battery for the Alembic condenser thermometer is CR2032
Plug Amp: The amp for the plug is 10 amps
Water Flow Rate 220-240V: The water flow rate for New Zealand and Australia is 400-700 ml
Water Flow Rate 110-120V: The US water flow rate should be (3.5 US fl oz) per minute, it should be a trickle your boiler has a lower power due to the 110V system used
The Cost of Running the T500: The still uses 2KW/hour ( NZ/UK/AU ) and 1.5KW/hour US. You can multiply this by the power rate paid by the time the T500 is operating (5 hours). Add this cost of cooling water based on the flow rate used and the cost of the raw materials required to make the wash. NZ/AU/UK uses on average 100-125 L per distillation. USA uses on average 20-25 L per distillation.
Thermostat: The type of thermostat on the T500 is KSD301-PR 125C
Standard Temperature and Yield: We try to run the flow rate between 400 - 700ml/min to ensure that the still operates between 50 - 65°C. From an 8kg wash our final yield is between 4 - 4.5L at 90 - 93% ABV in approx 4-6 hours.
HETP Number: The HETP is a number that relates to how pure your ethanol comes out of a distillation system. The higher the number, the purer the alcohol. It’s used in the industry, but not really for home use, as there are a lot of parameters that can affect the HETP value. For the T500 which is 600mm high, the HETP is 5.8 on average The grade of stainless steel in the boiler is SS304 The brass in the T500 is safe for food applications as it is lead-free.
